Rux and Roll - video collaboration with Rosie Brown - is here!

In spring 2021, I collaborated with Caledonia TV producer Rosie Brown on devising and filming a short video.
We both want to see more female physical comedians on TV, especially in children’s programmes, so we decided to have some fun and film something ourselves! Here is the video, masterfully edited by Rosie and friend.
Thank You, Rosie! Can’t wait to make more funny things with you!

National Theatre of Scotland Play Dates Commission - Storify and Unicorn Dance Party

We were commissioned by NTS to create 2 short web series for young audiences and families as part of their lockdown programme Play Dates. We created Storify and Unicorn Dance Party - conceived, devised, and performed by Ruxy and Sarah Rose, all filmed in Sarah Rose’s Apartment during Covid lockdown in Spring/Summer 2020.

  • Storify - How to create stories
Theatre makers Sarah Rose Graber and Ruxy Cantir lead a series of interactive videos about how to create and tell stories at home. Imaginations will be unleashed and stories created from everyday surroundings. From using different story structures and bringing characters to life to discovering new and exciting ways to engage with the objects at home, each new episode will result in at least one original tale to share with friends and family. For ages 5+

An inclusive new video series from Sarah Rose Graber and Ruxy Cantir about finding the joy within us. Everyone has an inner unicorn, but sometimes it takes a bit of dancing to bring it out! Join Melody and Luna as they celebrate what makes us unique by groovin’ around our homes.

Each episode will highlight different, fun ways to move our bodies and uncover inspiration from the spaces and materials around us. So pop on some sweet tunes because there’s a party around every corner and a bit of unicorn magic inside all of us! For all ages

“Two in a Barrel” Teaser

"Two in a Barrel" is a clown-inspired, physical theatre performance for young audiences about the waste we create, the destructive consequences of our habits, and co-existing in an environment with limited resources. Two lively quirky best friends - Riri and Moku - are confined to a barrel sitting on top of an island of rubbish in the ocean. They love finding treasures in the vast waste that surrounds them and making up their own world of adventure and imagination. Every little discarded thing can be transformed into a magical trinket that starts a fun game. But being in tight quarters means they face new challenges, like having to ration their food and learning to coexist. Danger arises when the waste around them continues to pile higher and threatens to cover them altogether. By looking at mass consumerism and the destructive effects (non bio-degradable) waste has on our environment, this Beckett-meets-Pixar show poses questions about the trash we produce and invokes awareness and environmental activism.

Bête Noire

“Cantir delivers a masterclass in how poignancy and hilarity can exist hand-in-hand.” (Kelly Apter in The List)

Parr lives in an attic. Parr encountered a dust bunny the other day in the attic and nearly had a heart attack. Parr has a hard time living life. Parr is not of this world. Parr lives on the fringe. The fringe suits Parr. Please don’t phone Parr.

Created and performed by Ruxandra Cantir, with support from Clown Cabaret Scratch Night.

This act has played at Cirque du Schwazee in Arcata, California, USA; Clown Cabaret Scratch Night (Autumn 2016) at Tron Theatre in Glasgow, Scotland; Red Pearl Female Clown Festival (February 2018) in Helsinki, Finland (as part of the Clown Cabaret Scratch Night Bursary); and at Clown Cabaret Special Edition for manipulate Visual Theatre Festival (February 2019) in Edinburgh, Scotland. Goldona, the Pickled Tomato

An excerpt of Pickled Republic - Ruxy’s solo show, played at the Clown Cabaret Scratch Night in June 2017

Pickled Republic follows the tragi-comic journey of a few mysterious characters who struggle to find some sense of purpose in their warped world. Whether it be a pickled tomato lamenting in a jar or a forgotten royalty who seeks the unthinkable, each character is trying to calm their anguish before it all ends.
Nobody is graceful when faced with demise. Grace is overrated, anyway.
Relish in an unearthly cross between Eugene Ionesco and The Big Lebowski.

The show is still in development and has previously been supported by Creative Scotland, SURGE, and Clown Cabaret Scratch Night.

Summit Fever, thesis at Dell'Arte, the threesome also known as Falling Fools Ensemble. Trailer Video (Left) and the entire 25-minute show below. Ruxy as Gregor the Climber, Anthony Arnista as Smog, Amelia Van Brunt as Mayo.

Summit Fever follows the journey of three grotesque clowns in a treacherous and highly physical ascent of Mount Everest. Tattered and beaten down, Smog, Gregor, and Mayo have been together on the tallest mountain on Earth for too long - constantly attempting to summit the elusive peak for what feels like, or may be, eternity. The clowns endure blizzards, avalanches, excruciating cold and pain, and most horrible of all, each other's company. All for a chance at the view on top of the world and the glory it comes with.
