In 1977, NASA sent two Voyager shuttles into space carrying the golden discs which contained sounds and images depicting the human experience. It was believed that if any life form beyond our planets discovered the discs, they would know we existed. But is it possible to truly distill, display, and archive what it means to be human through sounds and images? Voyager explores what it means to be human and what’s worth preserving.

In July 2020, we were commissioned by Paisley Arts Centre to create an audio, binaural version of Voyager. It launched end of September 2020!

In July 2019, we were awarded Creative Scotland Open Project Funding to support a residency at SURGE in Glasgow. During this time, we explored the subject matter of the Voyager spacecraft, experimented with digital, motion sensor technology and machine-learning processes, and presented an informal, private sharing of our discoveries. Please reach out if you are interested in seeing video of that sharing of very early explorations.

Conceived, devised and performed by Ruxandra Cantir and Sarah Rose Graber

Technology, Sound Design and Operation by Ryan Scott
